1. Introduction
Know Your Home ("we", "us", "our") explains here how we collect, use, store and share your information when you use our website at knowyourhome.co.uk and the services on it (the "Service").
We are the data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. If you have any question about this policy, email enquiries@knowyourhome.co.uk.
2. Data we collect
There is no account. We do not ask you to register, and we hold no username or password for you.
Order information. The property address you choose and its unique property reference number, the modules you select, whether you are buying, living in the property or selling it, any question you type, and your email address.
Payment information. Payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We keep the Stripe transaction reference and a record of what you bought, for accounting and tax.
Usage information. IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, the addresses you search for, and timestamps. This comes from server logs and from the advertising pixel described below.
Correspondence. Anything you send us by email, and our replies.
3. Lawful basis for processing
| Lawful basis | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Contract | To take payment and produce and deliver the report you ordered. |
| Legitimate interest | To keep the site secure, prevent fraud, improve the Service, and send you transactional emails such as your receipt and your report. |
| Consent | To set non-essential cookies, including advertising cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time. |
| Legal obligation | To keep financial records for as long as tax law requires. |
4. Who we share it with
We share personal data with the following, each of which is bound to handle it properly:
- Stripe. Payment processing. Stripe acts as an independent controller for card data.
- Ideal Postcodes. Address search, so that the address you type can be matched to a real property.
- Our hosting provider. Running the site and storing order records.
- Our email provider. To send your receipt and your report.
- Our advertising provider. Advertising measurement, through the pixel described below.
We do not sell your personal data to anybody, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We also take no commission from anyone mentioned in a report.
5. Cookies and advertising
This site runs an advertising measurement pixel. It loads when you arrive, may set cookies or similar identifiers, and records that a page was viewed and whether an order was started or completed. It does not receive the address you searched for or the contents of your report.
You can block it using your browser settings or a tracking blocker, and the site will work normally without it. We do not use any other analytics or advertising service. Our cookie policy lists exactly what is stored on your device.
6. How long we keep it
- Order and payment records. Six years, because tax law requires it.
- Reports we have produced. Kept alongside the order record, so we can resend one if you lose it.
- Correspondence. Kept while it is useful, then deleted.
- Server logs. Kept for a short period for security, then purged.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
| Right | What it means |
|---|---|
| Access | Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you. |
| Rectification | Ask us to correct data that is wrong or incomplete. |
| Erasure | Ask us to delete your data, subject to records we are legally required to keep. |
| Restriction | Ask us to limit how we use your data in certain cases. |
| Portability | Receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. |
| Objection | Object to processing based on legitimate interest, or to direct marketing. |
| Withdraw consent | Withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on it. |
To exercise any of these, email enquiries@knowyourhome.co.uk. We will respond within one calendar month, as the law requires.
8. International transfers
Some of the services we use process information outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards the law requires, such as adequacy decisions or International Data Transfer Agreements.
9. Security
Traffic to and from this site is encrypted in transit. Access to order records is restricted, and payment card details never reach our systems at all. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
The Service is not directed at anybody under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or by telephone on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first, at enquiries@knowyourhome.co.uk, so we have a chance to put it right.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Any change will be posted here with an updated date, and we will tell you by email if the change is significant.
