1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Websites also use similar technologies, such as local storage, which do the same job by a different mechanism. This policy covers both.
It explains what Know Your Home ("we", "us", "our") stores on your device at knowyourhome.co.uk, under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and UK GDPR.
2. What we store ourselves
There is no account on this site and nothing to log into, so we set no cookies of our own. We do store one short-lived identifier in your browser's session storage, which lets us count a visit as a single visit rather than a series of unconnected page views.
We use it only for our own measurement: how many people come to the site, how long they spend reading each part of it, and how many go on to order a report. That tells us which parts of the service are working and where people get stuck, so we can run and improve it. The information is not shared with anybody and is not used to advertise to you.
It is stored in session storage rather than a cookie, which means it is deleted the moment you close the tab, and it does not follow you to other websites.
3. What our advertising provider stores
Separately from the above, we run a measurement pixel to see whether our adverts work.
4. What the pixel stores, and why
The pixel stores a small number of items: a cookie that identifies your browsing session, two entries in session storage holding its configuration for the visit, and one entry in local storage recording your graphics hardware, which helps it recognise the same device again. The session storage entries are cleared when you close the tab.
These are advertising cookies and identifiers. They record that a page was viewed and whether an order was started or completed. They do not receive the property address you searched for, your question, or the contents of any report.
Our advertising provider sets these and controls how long they last.
5. We use no third-party analytics
We do not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service, and we serve no third-party advertisements on this site. The measurement described in section 2 is our own and stays with us.
6. How to stop them
The measurement pixel currently loads when you arrive at the site. You can prevent it in either of these ways, and the site will work normally without it. Nothing you can buy here depends on it.
- Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, and block third-party cookies by default. Look under Settings, Options or Preferences, usually within a Privacy section.
- A tracking blocker. Any of the common privacy extensions will stop the pixel loading at all, as will the tracking protection built into browsers such as Safari and Firefox.
7. Changes to this policy
We will update this page if what we store changes. The date at the top tells you when it was last reviewed.
